Book Review. . .

This review was done for The Tales Pensieve (TTP) under their reviewer program.

I am personally not an ardent fan of Short story genre as I haven't read much of this genre. It’s not that I don’t like short stories as such but it had never occurred me to try this type of literature as I found myself more inclined and glued to the longer version of the game. So when I got a chance to get hold of Carnival – a collection of 15 Short Stories by multiple (promising) Indian authors, I couldn’t hold my excitement. The recent phase of Indian Literature gives one a firm belief that old days of quality literature are coming back and Carnival, once again, re-affirms that opinion.

***Every breath of ours is taken under the shadow of Death...some of us find ourselves so obsessed with the fear of Death as if our obsession can in some way or manner let us escape that truth. There verses try to decipher the universal question "Can one ever escape the Death"***

Can one ever escape the Death

Is the question holding my breath

Answering it seems to be difficult

Especially for those who are so cult

~~~ Ghazal in Hindi ~~~
फिर लिए जज़्बा--मक़्लूब इश्क़ का कलमा लिख रहा हूँ
तिरे नाम का हर लब्ज़ पिरोकर फ़साना--दिल लिख रहा हूँ
है कश्मकश की तआरुफ़--यार का आग़ाज़ करू किस कदर
गिरह दर गिरह शोख अल्फाज़ो से शान--ग़ज़ल लिख रहा हूँ
कितना मुश्किल है यारो बयां करना किस्सा रंज--इंतज़ार का
हो रहा ये मन बावरा और मैं तिरे इत्तिहाद--पल लिख रहा हूँ
Keeping the faith alive and holding that flame of HOPE burning within inspire the heart to goad through the hardships. These verses try to encapsulate the message of the heart to let that flame ablaze to in turn let us going***
If ever the things go weary
Which I am sure will at times
Don’t let the faith go down the beam
Cause Hope is Your walking dream
~ Happy Vijayadashmi. . . ~
Vijayadashami or Dussehra is celebrated throughout India, under different names and with regional variations, as the victory of good over evil. The effigies of Ravana (the evil) are burnt across the country as an epitome of the victory of good over evil. This also marks as the culmination of nine day ‘navratra’ festival which is observed across household wherein little girls are worshipped and offered halwa & puri.
However, for Sai devotees this day hold all the more relevance. It is venerated as the holy day that their beloved Baba attaining Mahasamadhi (leaving this mortal body) and is a big festival in Shirdi.
Baba left his mortal coil on the 15th October 1918. Two years before i.e. in 1916 Baba gave an indication of his passing away. It was as follows. . .
Searching for Mahatma, Remembering the Talisman. . .
Today is 2nd October, the birthday day of Mahatma Gandhi. The word MAHATMA has its root in Sanskrit and is made of two words – ‘Maha’ meaning great and ‘Atman’ meaning soul. I often find myself wondering hard about the person named Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, his life, his principles and most importantly his ethics & also as to the greatness of his soul so as to refer him as "Mahatma". The life of Mahatma Gandhi is truly an institute in itself and the fact that he stood to his principles and ethics through-out the life is truly commendable. It’s fairly easy to have set of governing principles in life but what’s actually demanding is to able to stick to them come what may. We know from what we have learned and studied about the man, that Bapu (as he was fondly called) has indeed sacrificed his personal and public life for his principles and for the people around (though there exist a considerable amount of debate from some sects of people over his unfair and unjust approach towards his family and children – Read Mahatma vs. Gandhi, for example, which deals with his relationship with his eldest son).
Don't wait for the lights to turn green. Take a chance...get yourself onto the road, only then will you realise whether the lights are actually red or green !!
